Project Summary
Background
Two Mongolian women travelling in a car on the New Pantai Expressway (NPE) were stopped at an MCO roadblock on 10 April 2020. The officer on duty, an Inspector in rank, unlawfully detained the women in a hotel for more than 24-hours, reportedly raping them several times.
The Inspector was eventually charged in court on 9 separate charges on 30 April 2020, all of which he pleaded not guilty. Lawyers for the Inspector proceeded to file a security for costs application against the victims.
On 14 December 2020, the court ordered one of the victims - N, to pay security for costs amounting to RM70,000.00 within 30 days.
N struggled to raise funds to secure her right to justice in Malaysia due to the Covid-19 pandemic and the lockdown in Mongolia. Her civil case was eventually struck out.
N's lawyers are in the midst of filing a new civil suit against the Inspector, and raising RM46,500.00 to re-file the suit is needed to ensure that N has a fighting chance to gain justice for all the wrongdoings she had endured.
N is currently represented by the Malaysian law firm - Messrs Thomas Philip on a pro bono basis, who is trying to raise funds on her behalf to continue her fight for justice.
Help the Victim Get Justice
Here is our plea in a nutshell:
- RM46,500 is needed for N to re-file her civil action in court against the Inspector.
- All funds raised here will be held on trust for N by Thomas Philip towards the payment of cost to re-file her civil action.
- Any additional funds will be donated to the Malaysia Mongolia Friendship Society (MMFS).
