We're team Owe$ome, creators of the Owe$ome mobile app (www.owesomeapp.com), an idea which we brought to the very first AngelHack hackathon competition in Malaysia on 8 June 2013. AngelHack (www.angelhack.com) is the world's largest competition gathering about 15,000+ people from over 35 cities in the world.
The national leg competition saw 150 hardcore techies/developers from across Malaysia holed up under one roof in Cyberjaya for 48 hours non-stop, hacking away at their ideas. Our mission was to bring our Owe$ome mobile app idea there, build it, and pitch a prototype - all in one weekend.
From the start, we felt like the underdogs there as we were primarily from creative backgrounds. All we had was a whole lot of passion for an idea birthed from a real need, and a most unique imbalanced group made up of four feisty girls and two guys. Amid a male-dominated sea of seriously talented techies (see above pictures!), we won the national leg and will be representing Malaysia on the global stage in Silicon Valley soon (September 1 to 12, 2013)!

WHY WE'RE PITCHIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT AND HOW WE'RE GIVING BACK
We won as a team and hope to compete at Silicon Valley as a team! Currently we're only sponsored for 2 return tickets (Grand Prize) to San Francisco for the 2-week intensive opportunity to be mentored by tech leaders, attend TechDisrupt, pitch our Malaysian-made Owe$ome app idea to angel investors and gain start-up exposure in the hotbed of technopreneurship. (This neither covers the whole team for flights nor accommodation for the entire 2-week period there.)
The journey towards start-up has been mind-blowing for us, and AngelHack has opened up possibilities unimagined, propelling team Owe$ome like a jet into unknown space. We hope to be able to share that experience with our fellow Malaysians from Silicon Valley by documenting it in a live daily video journal for our pitchIN supporters! You'll know what it's like to be in the heart of tech suburbia, our day-to-day challenges and accelerated learnings.
WHERE WE ARE NOW
We're on track to building our app (mad timeline!) and releasing it in time for Silicon Valley. Two leading team members are preparing for the intensive journey ahead and will be flying to San Francisco using the winning tickets:
Joann Soon Mei Chuen, Owe$ome founder
The "Mama" who gave birth to this idea believes with a passion that creative, functional apps can help make a difference in our lives.
Gan Chu Hang, tech lead
As the lead for the development team, Gan's positivity and can-do attitude has propelled Owe$ome's speedy development! His famous app troubleshooting tip: "When in doubt, just shake it!"
BUT WE DON'T WANT TO LEAVE ANY OF OUR OWE$OME TEAM MEMBERS BEHIND!
We need about USD2000 x 4 to get all our team members there. A total of USD 8000. This will cover the return tickets and also accommodation for each of Owe$ome's team member.
Here is how it will happen with your support. Every USD2000 that is pitched will unlock each member of our remaining team member so that they could join Joann and Chu Hang in Silicon Valley. We made this far with everyone and it means so much for us if each member of our team can also be in Silicon Valley. And with your support, we can do it too!
Unlock Tan Sue Lin, our project manager and lead designer for USD2000
Also known as "Mama #2", her incredible attention to detail, project management and organisational skills keep team Owe$ome on track. In other words, she's the team's whip-cracker!
Unlock Zahir Mazlan, our copywriter and marketing guy for USD2000
Part writer, part marketing enthusiast, full-on obsessed fan of Britney Spears - this crazy jack of many trades charm and energy will definitely help keep the team going.
Unlock Lee Chien Chien, our design whiz for USD2000
Our wacky designer is tasked with the burden of making the app not only functional, but visually appealing as well. Her ability to animate characters to life has made our app the novelty that it is. She's also a regular member of the #3amclub!
Unlock Shaiianne Ong, our front end developer for USD2000
This feisty Simba-lookalike can accomplish so much after a cup (or ten) of coffee. As part of the development team, she slices and dices with gusto to meet our tight deadlines!
We have new reward tiers for those who'd like to support us at Owe$ome! Thanks to the film community, talkFILM and 1337 Ventures, the accelerator hub, you can now catch the movie, JOBS on September 5th, 2013 at GSC 1 Utama and at the same time, help us to get our team to Silicon Valley. Details of the movie will be announced later but for those supporting us via pitching to attend the movie on the opening day in Kuala Lumpur, you will also be joined by other startups and we may see some VCs and Angels too! Hence an opportunity for you to do some networking!
