Project Summary

Progress is a vague term when it comes to the severely mentally handicapped children and youths.

With these children, progress could be as big as being able to stand or eat on their own, or as simple as learning how to hold an item.

The Society for the Severely Mentally Handicapped Malaysia (SSMH) is a voluntary welfare organisation, which provides rehabilitation facilities for children and youths with severe mental and multiple physical disabilities.

Just like children who go to regular schools need their Maths, Science, Language and PE teachers to develop their skills in those areas, disabled children also need specialists to develop theirs.

The Physiotherapist, Occupational Therapist and Speech Therapist are the specialists the children here need. Although we know that ideally, every child should be given at least 360 minutes of therapy each week, we are currently only able to provide 90 minutes per week.

But why do we need such a big increase? Because, like any skill one learns, practice makes perfect. And that applies to the therapy here as well: the more hours they get, the better their performance.

It costs USD25 per hour of therapy. We would like you to participate in achieving this goal by sponsoring an hour of therapy for the children here. Your pitch is also tax exempted and we will provide all pitchers with the tax-exemption receipt. However, this applies only to Malaysians.

Our project, "Your Pledge, Their Therapy" aims to raise USD12,000 to enable us to achieve our aim of increasing therapy hours for the children.

Help us by pledging your support. Imagine how satisfying it would be if we at SSMH can say to you: "Michael can now walk because you sponsored additional therapy hours to enable him to achieve that goal!"

NOTE

We would encourage you to connect your Facebook with pitchIN before you pitch to the project. If not, your pitch will be identified as "anonymous" in the Project Page. However, if you choose to pitch anonymously, pitchIN would still have your information. We think it would be just awesome if we can see and identify our supporters in the wall of pitchers.

Also, because this project is a Community project, your pitch will be charged instantly.

ANNOUNCEMENT

A pitcher/pledger does not need a PayPal account to pitch or pledge. What he/she needs is a credit card (Mastercard/Visa) or a debit card.

However, if you are not comfortable doing an online pitch/pledge - you can transfer the money directly to the pitchIN account as follows:

WATCHTOWER AND FRIENDS SDN.BHD
Maybank 564892100684

WATCHTOWER AND FRIENDS SDN BHD is the company that owns and runs pitchIN.

However, the person must send pitchIN the proof of transfer by attaching the receipt to the email address: [email protected] with the Subject Heading: SSMH. Upon receiving that, the folks at pitchIN can then quickly update the project page.

Thank you again and we do hope you will support the project!
